Be the First to Experience Detroit Businesses “Doing the Right Thing”

As more people open their own businesses in Detroit and around the country, entrepreneurs are faced with difficult choices. When trying to do the right thing for their business, their community, their customers and themselves, how does responsibility come into play?

On May 8, Liberty Mutual Insurance invites you to join entrepreneurs, small business owners and other guests for the debut of two short films featuring successful Detroit businesses, Avalon International Breads and City Living Detroit, before the nationwide film releases. After the screening, the featured business owners will further share their insights into being responsible business owners, expressing the “Entrepreneurial Spirit” and making a positive difference in Detroit.

What? A new national film series called “The Entrepreneurial Spirit” from Liberty Mutual’s Responsibility Project features two innovative Detroit business:

  • Avalon International Breads - When co-founders Jackie Victor and Ann Perrault first opened their bakery in Midtown Detroit, they set three bottom lines that reflected their ethics: “Right relationship with the earth, right relationship with the employees and right relationship with the community.” Since then, they have been walking the walk to live up to their motto: “Eat Well, Do Good.”
  • City Living Detroit - When it came time for Austin Black to start his own real estate company, it was important for him to give back to the city that inspired his love of architecture and urbanism. From his office in Midtown, he has made it his mission to showcase Detroit’s historic homes and neighborhoods and improve quality of life in the city.
